A Brief History of Arbutus Company and  Timepieces

Albert Reed along with his brother, founded the ARBUTUS watch company in the early 1980's. They named the company after Albert's hometown in Canada, which was largely destroyed by a fire. Albert spent almost 30 years studying and working as an apprentice in a watch factory located in Shanghai. So, he is well versed in the mechanics of fine timepieces.

In 1992, Albert Reed retired. Target, Inc. collaborated with Bomass Ltd. to purchase "Arbutus" and start marketing the timepieces to Asian countries. Since that time, Arbutus has grown and now provides their timepieces on an international scale. Arbutus watches are now available in Asia, Europe, and the United States.

Island Watch is honored to have been selected as the exclusive retailer for the Arbutus line in the United States. The current line of Arbutus timepieces feature cutting-edge designs assembled with mechanical precision that was simply unheard of at these prices as little as five years ago.

Each watch comes nicely packaged in a quality jewelry-style box that compliments the watch lines fashion forward appeal. Another nice touch is the bands (or straps) of most Arbutus watches come nicely fitted with a deployant clasp instead of the normal simple buckle. This is a nice touch few companies include. Deployant clasps make putting your timepiece on/off easier and they extend the life of the strap as well. We think you'll be impressed when you place an Arbutus timepiece on your wrist.
