The Origin of Stovard Jurgenson
Watch Company
The owner and founder of Støvard
Jürgenson is Mr. Ibrahim Ökten. He is a true Watch enthusiast
who got infected by his ancestors who all come from Malatya,
Turkey. In the early 1920's Turkey had developed its own watch
industry with a big support of Swiss technology. Armenian,
Jewish and Turks from the Malatya region founded Watch brands
such as "Nacar" (Joint Venture with Tissot) and "Hislon".
Mr. Ökten started working as an
analyst at a Brokerhouse in Frankfurt in the early 1990s and was
studying at the same time at the University for industrial
design in Offenbach. At this time his interests for watches grew
and he started searching for watches that could full fill his
requirements and good taste. After he was introduced to Mr.
Helmut Sinn he bought a Sinn 142.
In 1993 Mr. Ökten decided to quit
his job at the brokerhouse in order to create his own business
in the watch industry. In 1996 he was introduced to Mr. Paul
Kleindienst, producer of Maurin watches. He was about to retire
from the watch business and after a while Mr. Kleindienst
offered Mr. Ökten to create his own watch. The Maurin "Impulse"
model was born. It was rated as one of the top 4 quality watches
ever tested! After Mr. Kleindiensts retirement he offered Mr.
Ökten the rights for the Maurin brand, but he declined.
Mr. Ökten decided to create a new
watch brand and named it after a Swedish ancestor of his wife's
family, who was a watchmaker to the Ottoman emperor. "Støvard
Jürgenson" was born!
