Seagull 1963 Hand Wind Mechanical Chronograph with Acrylic Crystal #6345A-2901

This special edition watch is an official remake of the 1963 Chinese Airforce chronograph, a unique and classic masterpiece now coveted by collectors nearly as much as the original. This new updated version has a 38mm polished stainless steel case with a retro acrylic crystal (front) and an exhibition window back. The gold tint creme dial features goldtone numbers and markers and a red star under the 12:00 position. 19 ZUAN on the dial indicates the movement has 19-jewels. The movement is a Seagull No. ST19 mechanical (hand winding) chronograph with 21,600 VPH and shock protection. Power reserve is about 45 hours on a full wind without the chronograph running.

The Seagull chronograph uses a column wheel. In this design, the key component is a small rotating cylinder with teeth at the top, not unlike a castle turret. As the chronograph buttons are pressed, the column wheel rotates and levers fall in between the teeth to drive the functions. The column wheel movement is considered by most watch enthusiasts to be the most desirable, since it requires the greatest skill to design and build correctly and it is thought to be the most durable.

The sub-dial on the left is the running seconds counter and the sub-dial on the right is a 30-minute timer. The red seconds hand is activated when you click the pusher at 2:00. The outer portion of the black dial is marked in seconds. The watch comes with a olive green NATO-Style strap.

Beautiful Watch December 4, 2017

As a guy who normally wore diver watches, this Seagull is very light. I worry a little about it’s durability, but otherwise it’s a beautiful watch. I’ve wanted one for a couple years and am glad I pulled the trigger in it. Island Watch shipped it quickly.

If you are looking at this, you probably know all about this watch already, so I'll spare you the details. What I CAN tell you is that Island Watch is good to go. Their shipping is lightning fast, and you can trust them to send you real, legitimate merchandise. No cheap knock offs here! This was the first watch I've ever bought from Island, but it definitely will not be my last. Well done, folks.

This is a great watch! November 27, 2017

I bought this watch because it has a beautiful retro look you are not going to find in any other watch.  In terms of authentic look and feel of a vintage military watch, it reminds me very much of the military watch my father wore in the Navy during World War II and then throughout my childhood (a Movado).

When I got the watch I found it was beautifully done and of substantial quality and feel. This is clearly one of the most attractive watches I have acquired in terms of being done "just right."

All the hands, including the large red second counter and the small minute counter, line up perfectly as they should.  The movement also has been keeping excellent time--I was not expecting this level of accuracy in a mechanical watch.

All in all, I would highly recommend this watch. I suspect this is a watch I will enjoy wearing for many years.

Beautiful vintage style September 11, 2017
Reviewer: Andrew from Sydney, Australia
I'm loving the vintage style of this watch; I've always liked this vintage style where the dial is almost as wide as the case, covered by the dome of the acrylic crystal. Beautiful dial. Utilitarian blued hands are very readable. Not absurdly large, but I note that there's a 42mm version available, too. The NATO is OK, but I'll be putting this on shark mesh to dress it up a bit.
