HEMEL 300-Meter Automatic Dive Watch with Luminous Bezel and AR Sapphire Crystal #HD1-02

The new Hemel HD (Hemel Diver) with Navy blue dial takes the brand into the sea - 300 meters deep to be exact. The 42mm watch case sports a rounded sapphire bezel insert with C3 lume markings and domed sapphire crystal with a subtle orange hued anti-reflective coating as opposed to the usual blue. Orange is central to the Hemel identity and this cue is repeated in the distinctive hour hand.

Also illuminated with C3 lume are the striking markers and a military stenciled 12 at the top of the sandwiched dial. The case back has an ornate design (two stylized dolphins) that is executed in relief sculpture fashion. There is knurled edging on the screw down crown with a similar pattern found on the edging of the 120 click rotating bezel. The watch is powered by a high-beat (28.8K bph) Miyota 9039 automatic 24-jewel movement with 42 hours of power reserve. A solid steel link bracelet with deployant clasp and solid, fitted end links complete the design.

5 of 5 Bravo! February 22, 2020

Sailing is my hobby, so I like a robust, waterproof watch.  The content-rich Hemel HD caught my eye.   I like the fact that it is slightly smaller than the SKX007.  (6.75" wrist) The bracelet is good, and this edition has a fold-over clasp which makes good sense on a diver, instead of the first edition issue butterfly. Also of note is a change from the orange AR coating to blue.  These changes are fine with me, but if you're expecting the strong orange tint shown in reviews of earlier HD releases you'll be surprised/disappointed.  The dial is the deepest blue imaginable and the sapphire bezel appears to be black on this watch. The Miyota hi-beat is smooth as silk,  the bezel clicks with precision, and the rounded & lumed sapphire bezel is a distinctive look.  The lume on dial and bezel is BRIGHT.  The relief engraved caseback is an objet d'art.  Hemel's unique take on a diver is definitely a big step up from the SKX it's replacing.  Ordering was easy and delivery was quick.  Bravo!
