Seagull 1963 Hand Wind Mechanical Chronograph with Sapphire Crystal #6345G-2901

This special edition watch is an official remake of the 1963 Chinese Airforce chronograph, a unique and classic masterpiece now coveted by collectors nearly as much as the original. This new updated version has a 38mm polished stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal (front) and an exhibition case back. The gold tint creme dial features goldtone numbers and markers and a red star under the 12:00 position. The movement is a Seagull No. ST21 mechanical (hand winding) chronograph with 21,600 VPH and shock protection. Power reserve is about 45 hours on a full wind without the chronograph running.

The Seagull chronograph uses a column wheel. In this design, the key component is a small rotating cylinder with teeth at the top, not unlike a castle turret. As the chronograph buttons are pressed, the column wheel rotates and levers fall in between the teeth to drive the functions. The column wheel movement is considered by most watch enthusiasts to be the most desirable, since it requires the greatest skill to design and build correctly and it is thought to be the most durable.

The sub-dial on the left is the running seconds counter and the sub-dial on the right is a 30-minute timer. The red seconds hand is activated when you click the pusher at 2:00. The outer portion of the black dial is marked in seconds. The watch comes with a olive green NATO-Style strap.
Watch Features:
  • Movement: Seagull Hand Wind Mechanical 21-Jewel Chronograph
  • Case: Polished Stainless Steel, 38mm diameter x 13mm thick
  • Back: Exhibition window back
  • Crystal: Scratch resistant sapphire
  • Band: Olive green NATO style strap, buckle closure.

Very Gorgeous Watch August 21, 2019

I've had my eye on the Seagull 1963 for many months before I finally decided to get it. I felt like a kid opening the box up to finally hold it in my hands. The dial/hands are nothing like I've seen before. The blue hands look great on it. I'm still a novice enthusiast about mechical/automatics. My previous watch is a seiko 5 snk 801 automatic and I absolutely love that one too.
I'd recommend the Long Island watches store. I might buy a couple new bands for my seagull.
Thank you!

Chronograph stopped working after a week.  Marc immediately sent another, which is perfect.  Also paid postage.  Thanks for the good service,
John

Incredible Bargain August 1, 2019
Reviewer: G. Frank from Tampa, FL
This is both the least expensive but coolest watch I own. Looks awesome, runs well, and the movement is absolutely mesmerizing to look at.

Even with some minor quirks, this watch easily earns all 5 stars (which I don't do lightly):

- Hour hand is maybe 2-3 minutes "fast." Pictures and video reviews I've seen confirm that my watch isn't the only one. Realigning would be easy (I could even do it) but it's so minor and not worth it.

- Not much resistance on the chrono reset pusher. Must be a design issue because I've seen similar reports from other folks.

But one positive that defies complaints I've seen from other folks: the NATO strap that came with my watch is actually pretty nice. Maybe I just got a good one (or they're starting to ship better ones). Nice fabric--not too thick--and no frays or anything (which could be resolved with a little flame). Hardware is great too.

All in all: wow. What a cool piece for under $400.
