Seiko "Arnie" Prospex Tuna Dive Watch with Solar Movement and 47.5mm Case #SNJ029

Seiko "Arnie" Prospex Tuna Dive Watch with Solar Movement and 47.5mm Case #SNJ029

This iProspex Divers Solar SNJ029 watch is a reissue of a cult classic originally known as the Seiko H558 watch that was first introduced in 1982. At the time, it was considered the world’s first hybrid diver watch. But, it was also famous for being the exact watch Arnold Schwarzenegger personally owned and wore in many of his 1980’s movies including Commando and The Predator. So, this new model has been nicknamed, the Seiko ‘Arnie’ watch as part of the Prospex Divers collection which follows closely the same design style as its early counterpart.

The black aesthetic looks striking on the wrist and fastens comfortably by a soft tan matching silicon strap. The case of the SNJ029 watch measures to 47.5mm in size, a slight increase from the original, and it is crafted from polished stainless steel. The largest difference between the new Seiko SNJ029 Solar Arnie and the original is the movement. The H558 model was powered by a standard quartz calibre whereas this new Seiko Arnie watch is equipped with Seiko’s famous Solar H851 movement with a six month power reserve when fully charged (by strong light). The H851 movement equips the timepiece with chronograph function, alarm, calendar and dual time. The functions are presented beautifully beneath hardlex crystal glass by a digital display and luminous hands and indices.

Water resistance is 200 meters. 120-click bezel. Screw down crown and pushers. 22mm lug width. It is an ISO 6425 rated diver.

    Colorful Cousin

I liked the reissued Arnie when Seiko introduced it last year and bought one. Mechanically this this the same watch except the color of the strap, the dial color, the look of the hands and the hour markers. That was enough difference for me. Bottom line, choose the look you like and pay more for the colorful version.
