This new Squale MTK-01 is a 300 meter dive watch designed exclusively for the American market. The nickname given to the watch is Montauk, which is a popular tourist destination at the east end of Long Island, NY.

Montauk is known for its beaches, fishing and strong Atlantic surf. It has a historical 1796 landmark lighthouse that houses documents signed by George Washington. It is also known for the mysterious Camp Hero State Park (once a U.S. WWII Military base) and for the Montauk monster found washed up on a beach back in 2008.

The case diameter for the Squale MTK-01 is 38mm and it's 12mm thick with a lug to lug measurement of 46mm. The case is made from 316L stainless steel that features a combination of polished and satin finishes. The screw-down caseback has an etched Squale logo and the crown has an embossed version of the logo.

The Swiss Made Sellita SW200-1 powers the watch and it is secured in the case with a metal holder. For increased accuracy, the Swiss movement is adjusted to five positions. The uni-directional diver marked bezel has a K1 mineral insert with a vintage colored SuperLuminova triangle marker. An aged vintage color SuperLuminova is also used on the hands and hour markers for reading the time in the dark. To enhance dial clarity Squale uses a flat sapphire crystal that has an anti-reflective coating on the inside surface. The watch comes with an Italian leather strap with contrasting stitching at the lugs to compliment the style of the watch.

    I wasn't completely sold on the look, just because I'm not crazy about vintage-looking pieces that aren't actually vintage. But I thought I'd give it a shot. I got the black one and it looks a lot better in person. Understated and classy. Fits perfectly snug on my 6.25" wrist, on the very last hole on the strap. Speaking of the strap, absolutely no complaints there. The movement has been on point, running about 1-2 seconds fast per day, out of the box. Very pleased with that. Bezel and chapter ring are perfectly aligned. Hand-winding and bezel ratchet feel good. Sapphire crystal is great. Lume is decent but does fade away rather quickly. Mineral bezel is nice and goes with the overall look, but a lumed ceramic bezel would have been nice, even for a slightly higher cost. Those would probably be my only complaints, nothing crazy. 2 year warranty is nice. Overall, very happy with this watch. You get a lot of bang for your buck.

    I love this watch. It’s it’s subtle yet a little sporty. The aged Lume is a nice touch! It gives it a vintage aesthetic. The leather band that comes with it is really nice but I swapped it out for a rubber strap. Overall really happy with this purchase.

    Montauk is on the Mark

    I love how Marc took elements of other Squale timepieces and made, in my option, the best value Squale on the market. This Montauk has a vintage vibe at an excellent price point. I think the K1 mineral bezel insert is a great choice because sapphire or ceramic would be overly shiny against the matte black dial. If you are putting a date window on a dive watch, this is how you do it. It is understated yet visible. If it was bordered or bevelled it would stand out too much, detracting from the tool feel of the watch. The leather is excellent and extremely comfortable right out of the box. I am currently wearing this on a satin finish STAIB mesh bracelet #STEEL-2784-20703APB-S. The 150mm version fits great on my 7wrist and looks awesome. I could not be happier. Next? That burgundy Bordeaux one…

    Very nicely built watch, great size, very comfortable on the wrist. Leather strap is extraordinary, very simple constructed of soft leather and looks great.

    As a fan of Squale and Montauk the perfect match for me this watch. Service of Long Island Watch great and quality of watch also. For a very affordable price the limited edition experience. Miss a unique Montauk inscription or specific modelnumber.
